Bhubaneswar, August 31: The commissionerate police Monday arrested Trahi Achyuta ashram chief Surendra Mishra alias Sura Baba and his two sons Trilochan and Biranchi under sections 341, 342, 506, 354, 509, SC/ST Atrocities Act, Arms Act, among others.
Three diffrent cases have been registered against Surendra Mishra and his two sons so far at Balipatna police station, the police said.
Briefing the media here Monday evening, twin cities’ police commissioner RP Sharma asserted that the situation at Trahi ashram in Jhinti Sasan was under control. Sharma also said that after vigorous stone-pelting by the locals, section 144 was promulgated in the area.
“Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, Chandrasekharpur inspector-in-charge Devi Shankar Pratap and a few other officials sustained minor injuries during Monday’s stone-pelting incident,” the commissioner said.
Talking about the questioning of the trio so far, Sharma said they interrogated them on when the ashram was set up, the allegations leveled against them by a woman, among others.
Earlier in the day, enraged locals ransacked Trahi ashrams across the state including those at Jhinti Sasan, Akarapada in Jajpur, Balashwar and Bhadrak.
The locals also set ablaze a few vehicles parked inside the Trahi ashram in Jhinti Sasan.
The police fired tear-gas shells near Trahi ashram in Jhinti Sasan to disperse the erring protestors. Two guns and three 9 mm bullets were seized from the ashram in Jhinti, the police said.
After the police took Surendra and his sons into custody late Sunday night, a three-member team led by Bhoi had interrogated the trio at the commissionerate police’s office here.
Surendra and his sons were detained by the police late Sunday night on the basis of Jayant Bhoi’s complaint at Balipatana police station that the trio had intimidated him.
A woman staying at Achyuta ashram also lodged a complaint Monday against Surendra and his sons with Balipatna police alleging sexual harassment.
