Mother Nature has bestowed us with her bountiful beauties. Odisha— the land of famed forests, mountains, valleys, waterfalls, gorges, soaring peaks with stunning wildlife in their own natural habitats— has been her favourite. Here comes, Sureswari waterfall, one of the lesser-known beauties
BHUBANESWAR: There are several waterfalls in the state which have been explored a lot in the past few years. Still, there are many waiting to be explored. Waterfalls in Odisha have their own charm. They will leave you mesmerised. They are the best getaways for a perfect weekend. One can relax in the natural surroundings and take a dip in the cool cascading waters in serene open surroundings.
Among the many, Sureswari is a lesser-known waterfall located inside Bamur forest range. Adventurer Subhasish Dash located this wonderful spot with the help of a few locals just about a fortnight ago.
Interacting with Orissa POST, Subhasish said, “Visiting a waterfall, especially during the monsoon, is one of my pastimes. One of my acquaintances Rinku Bhai introduced this waterfall to me four months ago.”
In his own words, “This waterfall is located in Bamur forest range which comes under Rairakhol sub-division that is on Angul – Sambalpur border. This waterfall is 40 km away from Bamur Chowk on way to Cuttack – Sambalpur highway. You can go up to 30km by motorbike and the rest of the distance trekking.”
“After covering 20 km on Bamur forest range, we came across a village named Pathargarh, which is in fact the last village of Angul. Ten kilometres from this backward village, we came across mountains and streams. We were accompanied by four villagers; one of them, Satya, informed us that there are many wild bears in the area and advised us to wield sticks for safety. Though the area is a moderately dense forest, we have to face many difficulties and hurdles. But what had kept us going was the thought of exploring a lesser-known waterfall.”
“Our love for Mother Nature gave us the strength to endure this pain and made us move towards our destination. We halted at a temple, where Maa Sureswari is being worshipped. Obviously, the waterfall is named after her,” he added.
“As soon as we reached the site, we were elated to see its beauty. The waterfall is magical. Surrounded by greenery, the view is breathtaking. It’s pure joy to see water swishing over rocks and thundering down like a giant water sprout. As the water touched our feet, we felt its calmness and coolness,” he concluded.
