Suspected child lifter thrashed in Balasore

Soro: A man suspected to be a child lifter was beaten mercilessly by a mob at Betada village under Simulia police limits in Balasore district Sunday.

On being informed, police reached the spot and rescued the man. They have detained him at the police station for interrogation. The police are yet to divulge the identity of the accused.

Cases of children going missing and later being found dead are being reported from different parts of the state frequently for last several months. In some parts, rumours suggested that organ mafias were in prowl.

With these incidents still fresh in minds of people, some villagers of Betada roughed up the man who was allegedly trying to take away a child playing outside.

According to villagers, Niranjan Das’s minor son was playing outside his house. The man approached him and tried to lift him. Seeing an unknown person, the child started crying aloud. Hearing his cry, some villagers came rushing to the child and finding the man still carrying the child, they ganged up against him and rained blows and kicks on him after tying him to a coconut tree.
