Berhampur: A speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) plowed into a wedding gathering, killed three girls and injured as many as 12 at Mandiapalli village in Berhampur, a source said Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Swapna Reddy (22), Sanju Reddy (23) and Bharti Reddy (12) from Keshav Nagar area in Berhampur town.
All the injured persons were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Besides, two other injured persons were shifted to Visakhapatnam as their health condition deteriorated, informed the source.
As per the source, the SUV rammed the verandah of a house at a very high speed at a time when around 50 members from bride’s side were waiting on the road to welcome the groom Tuesday night.
The SUV driver was allegedly in an inebriated state. After the accident, the driver drove away from the scene.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
