Bhubaneswar: Orissa chess player IM Swayams Mishra finished his campaign in joint third position and overall fifth spot with 7.5 points in the Delhi International Chess Championship, which concluded Monday.
Tajikistan’s Grandmaster Farrukh Amonatov clinched the title with 8.5 points at the 10-round tournament. Grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh (eight) who drew with Farrukh in the final round finished second while Uzbekistan GM Marat Dzhumaev (also eight) finished third.
Swayams played a stalemate with GM Adam Tukhaev (7.5) of Ukraine in the final round. He registered five wins and identical number of draws and remained unbeaten during the event.
Among others, Rakesh Kumar Jena (six points) who got a walkover against S Prasanna, finished joint sixth. Rajesh Nayak, Sidhant Mohapatra and Baibhav Mishra finished joint seventh with 5.5 points in their kitty.
Rajesh defeated R Dheekshith Kumar while Baibhav got the better of M Sreeshwan in their last round matches. However, Sidhant suffered a defeat at the hands of lower-rated IM DP Singh.
WFM Saina Salonika and Sambit Panda were not so impressive as they ended up in joint ninth place with 4.5 points each. Rutumbara Bidhar concluded her campaign in joint 10th position with four points in her kitty after scripting a win over Naveen Bansal.
