Taking selfie in this beach will award you death penalty

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media is called selfie. It was originated in 21st century.

Nowadays selfie plays a pivotal role in everyone’s life. People tour around the world and take selfies at beautiful beaches and post it on the digital media. But there is a place in Thailand where selfies can gift you to death penalty.

Sounds weird but true! Mai Khao beach on Thailand’s island of Phuket is the name of the place. Here, planes are frequent and can be seen flying very low over the beach while en route to the runway.

Airport officials have decided that taking selfies can distract pilots trying to land. So to avoid unwanted incident, officials have threatened the death penalty. Actually there is no risk if anyone takes selfie but a report revealed the tourist use drones and laser pens on the beach which may distract pilot.

If found guilty then he/she will be punished under the Air Aviation Act 1978 which provides a life sentence, or a jail term of between five to 20 years.

As a precautionary step the officials are developing a new safety zone where tourists will no longer have access to the area where they can take the selfie.

Mean while, the locals have raised objections, claiming that creating such restricted space will hurt business.
