Tea seller joins plastic-free drive

An awareness message comes with a cup of tea

Puri: At a time when the plastic-free campaign launched by Orissa POST is receiving overwhelming support from various sections of the society a tea seller of the Holy City has also joined in the drive.

The tea seller, Brajabandhu Nayak, who has a tea stall near the bus stand at Saradhabali in the city said, the posters, banners and awareness rallies for a plastic-free state, conducted by Orissa POST and Dharitri had motivated him about the drive.  He has also declared his tea stall ‘plastic and polythene bags’ free since Saturday.

He would also put up a poster against use of plastic in front of his tea stall and would ask his customers to boycott it and polythene as well, he said.

For a start, he has boycotted the plastic water bottles and installed a water filter for drinking water.  Similarly, he is now providing tea to the customers in paper cups, after rejecting the plastic variant.

He is also giving a piece of awareness message with a cup of tea about the plastic-free campaign to the customers who come to his stall.

“ After finding the campaign in Orissa POST and Dharitri, I got motivated to support the drive. Use of plastic and polythene bag is harmful to society. A mass attempt to stop the plastic can curb the menace, ” Nayak said.

He said he would try to rope in all the street vendors in the drive in the coming days, he added.

The locals and the customers have come out in appreciation of Nayak’s effort as was evident in youths even clicking selfies with him while profusely thanking him for showing them and society the way.
