Teacher among 5 killed, 4 injured in road mishaps

Jajpur/Keonjhar/Paralakhemundi: At least five persons including a teacher and three workers were killed while another four sustained serious injuries in two separate road mishaps in Jajpur and Keonjhar district Monday.

In the first incident, as many as three labourers were killed while another sustained grievous injuries after an unidentified truck hit them near BRPL square in Kalinganagar area of Jajpur district.

The deceased have been identified as Tapan Sethy, Balaram Jena and Rajendra of Kendrapara district. The injured was identified as Chandan Nayak. All the four were workers of JOSKO company in the district.

According to sources, the incident occurred while four workers were standing at BRPL square. Meanwhile, a truck rammed them, killing three of them on the spot. The incident happened  after the truck driver lost balance over the wheels.

Later, the driver fled the spot with the vehicle after the mishap. Passersby rescued Chandan and rushed him to Dhangadi community health centre (CHC) where he is placed under intense care and is stated to be critical.

Similarly, a man was killed while three others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between two motorbikes near Saraswatipara square on NH-220 near Patna in Keonjhar district late Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rabi Narayan Nanda (45), an art teacher of Tentulipadi village High School under Hatadihi block. The injured have been identified as Prasant Bhanja of the same village, Arjun Mahanta of Mangalpur village and Harihar Mahanta of Dhianali village.

According to sources, the incident occurred while Rabi and Prasant, on a two-wheeler, were on their way to Karanjia while the other two were coming from the opposite direction.

Rabi, who was riding the motorcycle, died on the spot while the other three were rendered critical. Locals rescued and admitted them to a nearby hospital.

Similarly, David Gamango of Satar village in Gajapati district died after his two-wheeler was hit by a Bolero while he was on his way to Khajuripada in Kandhamal district.
