Teacher arrested for eloping and raping minor student in Keonjhar district

Patana: Police arrested Tuesday a youth for kidnapping and raping a minor here in Koenjhar district. The accused has been identified as Gatikrushna Sethi (28), a resident of Udaypur village under Patana police limits.

According to the allegations by the family members, the victim (15) was regularly receiving private tuition from Gatikrushna. Taking advantage of her innocence, he managed to lure the victim to have an ‘affair’ with him. To everyone’s surprise, they eloped May 18 to Baripada. Later, he took the victim to his aunt’s house at Matiagarh village. During the stay there, he sexually assaulted the victim on several occasions.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family members lodged a report with Patana police station. Acting on the report, the police launched an investigation. Subsequently, the accused’s family members brought the victim and produced her before the police.

“The police conducted a medical test on the victim at the community health centre (CHC) here. The accused tutor who had been at large was arrested from his aunt’s house at Matiagarh village Tuesday and produced in a local court,” informed investigating officer sub-inspector Sibashankar Alada.

As the case involved a minor, Additional Superintendent of Police Suresh Kumar Naik and Patana police station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Rajendra Swain personally supervised the investigation, it was learnt.
