Teacher locked up for allegedly molesting student

Baripada:  A school teacher of Bramhanamara Upper Primary School under Baripada Sadar police limits in Mayurbhanj district was Thursday locked up by villagers for allegedly molesting a minor student Wednesday.

According to the parents of the minor girl, the teacher — identified as Prashant Bhujabal – called the child to the school office on pretext of fetching mid-day meal materials and molested her there. Besides, he threatened the child against speaking up.

While the Class VI student kept quiet Wednesday, she refused to go to school Thursday. Upon much persuasion, she confided about the incident with her parents following which her parents along with fellow villagers approached the concerned school teacher.

The teacher was subsequently locked up inside the school and the villagers ransacked his car parked inside the school premises.

On being informed, police reached the spot but the angry villagers locked them inside the campus as well. The situation improved after additional forces were deployed.

About a platoon of police force continue to remain stationed at the school to avoid any untoward incident. That said, the police are yet to frame charges against the accused.
