Teachers in soup for furnishing fake certificates in Ganjam

Berhampur: In Ganjam district, cases of teachers managing to get jobs by furnishing fake certificates are coming to the fore every day.

Fearing disciplinary action, some teachers have already resigned from their jobs. “These unscrupulous teachers will not be spared at all. They would be punished even if they have resigned,” said District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

‘Nagarika Suraksha O Adhikar Manch’ and the Forward Block have given lists of such teachers who have allegedly got their jobs on the basis of their fake certificates submitted to the district education department.

The lists name more than 70 teachers with maximum numbers being reported from Beguniapada, Dharakote, Shergarh and Kabisuryanagar blocks.

Seven male and female teachers’ certificates were found to be fake after a thorough verification in Dharakote block. FIRs against these teachers have already been lodged with the concerned police stations, said a source.

Verification of certificates is going on in other blocks as well. The certificates of those teachers against whom the department has received complaints or information which was sought under the Right to Information Act are being verified on a priority basis.

It has been discovered that the teachers who have resigned obtained their certificates from a particular institute which is also now under the scanner.

A source said that currently the matriculation certificates of teachers are presently being verified. However, there is no news regarding the verification of certificates of higher studies. The same source alleged that many teachers have allegedly furnished their B.Ed certificates procured from other states. They said these could also be fake.

Kulange, meanwhile, said that even those who have resigned will not be spared as they have drawn salaries on the basis of the fake certificates that helped them get the job. He promised disciplinary and leagl action against the erring teachers. “Aafter discussions with the police, FIRs would be lodged against the errant teachers following which they may even be arrested,” said the Collector.
