Tech student’s death: Deceased’s father alleges murder, seeks probe

Khurda: A day after an engineering student committed suicide at his hostel room in the college premises here, the deceased’s father, Wednesday, alleged that his son was murdered by someone.

The deceased student’s father Laxman Sahu of Gondia area of Dhenkanal district urged police to launch an impartial probe to find out the true cause behind his son Dinesh’s death.

Sahu urged the police to include the authorities of the engineering college and the roommates of his deceased son in the investigation process.

Sahu claimed that the engineering college authorities called him around 6.50 pm Tuesday and informed that his son Dinesh, a third year B.Tech student, was admitted to the Khurda district headquarters hospital (DHH) with some health complications.

“I reached the DHH around 8 pm and found the body of my son. Dinesh was not facing any problems with regard to money or other issues. We are sure that he did not commit suicide,” Sahu alleged.

College authorities, however, claimed that Dinesh hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his hostel room by using a towel Tuesday evening. He was rushed to Khurda DHH in a critical condition. However, doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival’.

“We have registered an unnatural death case and begun a probe into the incident. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said an officer of Khurda Sadar police station.
