Deogarh: The Vigilance officials Saturday arrested an executive engineer of Minor Irrigation Division (MID) in Deogarh while he was accepting bribe of Rs 21,000 from a contractor.
The executive engineer identified as Rabindra Kumar Mehto had reportedly sought the financial favour from contractor Dillip Kumar Padhi for passing the latter’s pending bills.
Padhi alleged that a bill of Rs 10.5 lakh for the construction of a building at MRP colony was pending since the last 11 months as Mehto was delaying the matter for conjuring bribe. Padhi later convinced him to clear the bill by assuring him to give two percent of the bill.
Annoyed over the engineer’s act, Padhi approached the vigilance sleuths and filed a complaint against Mehto.
Acting on the complaint, the anti-corruption officials laid a trap and caught Mehto red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount from Padhi at his office.
Subsequently, he was arrested and a search was also conducted at his government quarters in Deogarh.
