Dabugaon: A senior revenue assistant (SRA) working at Dabugaon tehsil office was detained by the local police Saturday evening for allegedly misappropriating government funds in Nabarangpur.
According to an official source, the tehsildar of Dabugaon has brought charge over alleged financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 63.62 lakh against the SRA of the same office. Based on an FIR lodged by the tehsildar Sandhya Somarath, the Dabugaon police have detained the revenue assistant Chandana Mondal, a senior police official said.

Mondal put up a challan form after making a correction of the billed amount and overwriting on it May 24 before the Dabugaon tehsildar for her approval. Suspecting something wrong in the challan, the tehsildar asked Mondal to update the bank passbook of the office.
The assistant had been intentionally avoiding to visit the bank for the purpose of updating the passbook, saying that there was rush at the bank. Later, the tehsildar informed her higher-ups about the matter.
However, when the police brought Mondal for questioning, she fainted at the police station Sunday morning. She was immediately rushed to a community health centre (CHC) at Gabigaon. She was shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput after her health condition deteriorated, the official added.
