Tension brews among Angul Municipality employees over provident fund issue

Angul: Tension is brewing among the employees of the Angul Municipality as the provident fund (PF) amount being deducted from their salaries has not been deposited for the last nine months. As it is the civic body will now have to pay huge fines to rectify this mistake. Employees are questioning as to how the penalty will be paid and why their PF money has not been deposited in the proper method.

There are close to 80 employees in the Angul Municipality. A deduction of 12.5 per cent of their salaries is taking place every month. The civic body is also required to add the same amount to the deducted portion and then deposit it to the Employees Provident Fund account. However, the Municipality has failed to do so for a long period of time. Instead the amount is being deposited in a bank. The employees are yet to get a proper reply regarding this issue.

When contacted, municipality executive officer Adhikari Panda admitted it that the money has not been deposited in Employees Provident Fund account. However, he failed to give any plausible reason for the error. He however, assured that the mistake will be rectified soon and the process to do so has been initiated.
