Athagarh: Tension prevailed at Aarati Steel Plant in Athagarh here following the death of an injured worker in a private hospital. Angry workers staged a demonstration in front of the plant demanding compensation to the deceased’s family Saturday morning.
Sources said, the deceased, identified as Manas Swain of Dwarabatipur, was undergoing treatment at the private hospital after being hit by a dumper inside the plant Friday.
The incident occurred when Manas was standing behind the dumper and the driver reversed the vehicle and crushed him under the vehicle. He was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday.
Later the deceased’s family members, workers and the locals staged a demonstration demanding maximum compensation.
However, the plant authorities, in presence of Athagarh Tehsildar pacified the irate people and a discussion on the issue is in progress till the time of writing this report.
This is second such incident of death when an employee of the company has been crushed by dumper.
Despite the fact that the plant authorities had announced at a press conference that they would follow all safety measures inside the plant, no such steps have so far been taken, the workers alleged.
