Boudh: Tension ran high at Purunakatak community health centre in Boudh district Tuesday following the death of a minor girl due to alleged medical negligence.
Angry villagers locked the CHC following the girl’s death and staged a demonstration. They demanded action against the doctors and staffs responsible for the girl’s death and necessary compensation for the bereaved family members.
The deceased was identified as Tapaswini Bhakta (8), daughter of Akrur Bhakta of Purunakatak area.
According to information, Tapaswini, a Class III girl was admitted to the health centre by her family members late Monday night after she complained of severe stomach pain.
However, there were no doctors in the CHC to attend the girl. When family members asked the nurse to call a doctor, she avoided it by saying that he was on a holiday. After the girl’s condition worsened, the nurse went to call a pharmacist, but in vain. The girl breathed her last before the pharmacist came to attend her.
Following this, angry family members had a scuffle with the staffs of the health centre. They later locked up the gate of the health centre and staged a dharna by placing the body of the child on the road.
The agitators alleged that the child died due to medical negligence and demanded strict action against those responsible for her death.
On receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
It may be noted here that there is only one doctor appointed in the CHC and he is on leave. Earlier, the district collector Sitanshu Kumar Rout during his visit to the CHC had directed the CDMO to appoint another doctor in the CHC.
However, his orders are yet to be carried out, locals said.
