Stress is a natural part of each one’s life. Everyone beginning from common men to celebrities go through some tough times in their life.
Life isn’t a bed of roses. While we have a perception that celebs have a fairy tale life, it isn’t the truth. Besides, everyone at some point in their lives including famous personalities suffer from behavioral and emotional disorders such as anxiety, stress, and depression.
Here is a list of Indian celebrities who overcame depression, stress and anxiety:
Deepika Padukone:
Deepika Padukone is one of the most fascinating and highest paid actresses of today; she suffered from anxiety and depression in 2014 while shooting for a movie “Happy New Year.”
She was very open about this fact in her interviews with the media. She started concentrating on her work which helped her a while. Later she was on the medication to overcome her condition. I thought it was stress, so I tried to distract myself by focusing on work, and surrounding myself with people, which helped for a while. But the nagging feeling didn’t go away. My breath was shallow, I suffered from lack of concentration and I broke down often.
Anushka Sharma:
Anushka Sharma is a vivacious actress, suffered from anxiety in the early part of her career. She openly talked that, she becomes anxious frequently about things. She underwent medication and very much better now.
I have anxiety. And I’m treating my anxiety. I’m on medication for my anxiety. Why am I saying this? Because it’s a completely normal thing. It’s a biological problem. In my family there have been cases of depression. More and more people should talk openly about it. There is nothing shameful about it or something to hide. If you had a constant stomach pain, wouldn’t you go to the doctor? It’s that simple. I want to make this my mission, to take any shame out of this, to educate people about this.
Shah Rukh Khan:
The king of Bollywood “Shahrukh Khan,” is one of the top ten richest actors in the world suffered from depression post his shoulder surgery in 2010. Besides, he was depressed for three months after the release of his movie “Ra. One.”. Later, he overcame the disorder with the help of his family.
Due to the shoulder injury and the suffering I had got into a depression mode but now I am out of it. I feel happy and boosted with energy.
Honey Singh:
There is no better example of a stressed out individual than Honey Singh, an Indi-pop singer. He put on to complete bed rest for months and medication due to bipolar disorder. Later, he battled his condition with the help of a doctor from Delhi.
It was scary. One year had passed and I wasn’t responding to medicines, until a fourth doctor from Delhi treated me. At one point, I thought I would live in this darkness forever. I had cut myself off from everyone. I didn’t come out of my room, forget stepping out of the house. I had a beard and I didn’t get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people. That’s what bipolar disorder does to you.
Manisha Koirala:
Manisha Koirala, a cancer survivor and the most established actress in Bollywood suffered from mental health problems post her divorce from her ex-husband. She has now recovered from all her problems with the help of medication and is back on the acting scene today.
One of the most established actresses of Bollywood, Manisha Koirala suffered from clinical depression, the cause of which was her ex-husband Samrat Dahlal. Not only she battled clinical depression but she is also a cancer survivor. This is what one of her Facebook statuses said when she was going through that bad phase.
Aamir Khan:
Aamir Khan is the Mr. Perfect of Indian cinema, had a tough time maintaining this image. He went into depression after performing the last shot of the TV serial, Satyamev Jayate. Later, he overcame his situation and is back on the track today.
Hrithik Roshan:
Hrithik Roshan, the Bollywood dancing star had a traumatic childhood because of speech disorder. Things improved gradually for him when he started practicing the speech therapies.
He was in the news recently, because of his alleged affair with a top actress which sent him into a depression mode. He has recovered from it and is back in front the screen now.
Ileana D’Cruz:
Ileana D’Cruz was also a victim of depression in recent times because of her superstardom. She is a known face in both Hindi and South Indian films. She has now overcome her problems from the support of her family and friends.
In an interview with Miss Malini, actress Ileana D’Cruz talked about her struggle with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, anxiety and depression and how constant help and support from family and friends help her during tough times.
Sanjay Dutt:
Sanjay Dutt, an actor, and a producer went through a lot of flaws in his life. After his mother’s death, he was under stress and had his share of drugs in his younger days.
He was left in prison for 18 months and went to depression because of his alleged involvement in the Mumbai serial blasts 1993. Finally, he was out of the pressure and overcame his condition. Now, he was on the screen with a bang.
