This is why Airplanes are white in color

Have you ever wondered why most airplanes are white in colour? Although some stripes, decorations, and names on the plane are written in different colours, the base is always white.

In this article we will tell you the reasons why airplanes are usually painted white.

There are scientific as well as economic reasons behind the white color.

Scientific reason:

In summers we are advised to wear white clothes, because white is the best reflector of light. For this reason, the airplane is painted in white as it reflects the rays coming from the sun. Despite flying in high altitude, sun’s strong ray does not affect passengers and provide relief to them. In short, it balances the temperature.

From a safety point of view, dents or damage to the airplane can be easily spotted if the colour is white . If the surface of the airplane is white, then rust and oil spill spots are also easily detected.

White plane is easier to spot (visually) in the event of a crash or any other mishap, especially at night, or in a massive body of water.

Economic reasons

It costs around 3 lakh to 1 crore rupees to paint an airplane and no company wants to spend so much money on it. Also, it takes two to seven days to paint a regular Boeing Airbus. Therefore, to avoid these problems, the surface of the plane is painted in white.

Due to standing in the sun, any other colour gradually becomes lighter, but there is no such problem with white. This is why companies prefer to keep the surface of the plane white.

Aviation companies buy and sell their plane very often. In such a situation, changing the name of the company or changing it according to choice, becomes easy due to the white color.

Using any other color increases the weight of the airplane. Due to this, the consumption of petrol also increases considerably. Painting the surface of the airplane with white paint reduces weight and becomes less expensive for the aviation companies.
