Koraput: It seems shortage of classrooms has become a permanent feature of schools in Koraput district as in the case of the Baunsaput Ashram School in Bandhugaon block here which has only three classrooms for eight classes.
Apart from this, the students staying in the school’s hostel are apprehensive about their safety at night as no teacher stays with them. There is only a night watchman at the hostel.
The school doesn’t have a gate, and wild animals reportedly enter its premises at night.
Around 200 students study in Class 1 to VIII at the school, but it has only six teachers.
Apprehensive about the safety of their kids, parents have been asking the headmaster as well as concerned officials to post a teacher at the hostel at night, and to install a gate for the school, but nothing has been done so far.
The headmaster of the school, Nilamani Sahoo, said that it was impossible to post a teacher at the hostel at night. He said that the watchman is looking after security at the hostel.
Sahoo said he had been informing higher ups regarding the need for a gate for the school.
