Thrashed by teacher, student hospitalised

Joda: A teacher of a public school allegedly beat up a 9-year-old student leading to fracture in the latter’s chest bones here in Keonjhar district.

The incident took place at St Teresa School. A police complaint was filed by Rasikalal Mohant, the father of the student, in this regard Thursday.

According to the complaint, the student and some of his classmates reached the school late September 9, as the school bus got delayed due to a protest.

The students had missed the Hindi class that day. When the teacher asked questions to the students, Rasikalal’s on could not answer. Infuriated, the teacher picked up a steel scale and thrashed the student severely. The student complained of pain in the chest.

He was taken to a local hospital where doctors failed to detect the cause of the chest pain. The student was then admitted to AMRI Hospital in Bhubaneswar where X-ray revealed that two bones in his chest had cracks.

The parents of the child had taken up the issue with the principal.

But the couple told media person that the principal termed their allegation false and baseless and allegedly misbehaved with them.

Following the complaint, the school authorities had tried to settle the matter amicably.

However, Joda IIC Manoj Kumar Rout said the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against the guilty.
