Daringbadi: Daringbadi police in Kandhamal district arrested three people for driving under the influence of alcohol late Tuesday night under the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019.
They were subjected to a medical test by a registered medical practitioner.
So far, as many as 20 drunk drivers have been arrested within a week. Late Tuesday night, many drivers were checked at different squares of Daringbadi town, said the police.
The cops have launched a special drive to detect cases of drunk driving on the national and state highways as per the provisions of the section 185/202 of MV Act.
Local police hope that the drive will help curb drunk driving on the highways.
The accused men will be forwarded to court Wednesday, said a source.
Under the rules, if alcohol content exceeds 30 mg per 100 ml of blood or the drug consumed makes the driver incapable of exercising proper control over the vehicle, the concerned driver will be arrested.
