Three held in Rs 4cr job fraud

Bhubaneswar: A court Thursday sent the managing director of a job consultancy firm and two of his associates, who allegedly duped more than Rs 4 crore from hundreds of job-aspirants, to 14 days judicial custody here. Earlier, several victims lodged police complaints with the Chandrasekharpur police.

The accused, identified as Subhash Nayak of Balasore, was the MD of Smart Quicker Solutions located at ATM square in Niladri Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police station limits. His associates were identified as Gyan Prakash Mishra and Raj Kishore Maharana of Jajpur.

According to sources, Nayak collected deposits to the tune of Rs 11,000 to around Rs 2 lakhs from around 400 aspirants to provide them jobs at government organisations. The amount added up to Rs 4 crore in different installments. He had promised to provide jobs at Bhubaneswar Municipal Commission, OMFED unit at Chandrasekharpur, East Coast Railways along with several other government agencies. He used to conduct fake written exams for eligibility of aspirants at his office in order to earn their faith.

Around 34 aspirants gathered at the police station after getting the news of his arrest Wednesday night while several others across the state reached the station Thursday morning. There are reportedly many more victims who are yet to register their complaint.

Rashmita Mohapatra, a resident of Madhusudanpur of Baranga, told Orissa POST, “He demanded Rs 61,000 from me on the pretext of providing a data operator’s job at the OMFED office at Chandrasekharpur. I have deposited Rs 11,000 as first installment and scheduled to pay the rest Thursday. We appeared for written exams at his office as well. My cousin also paid Rs 11,000 to Nayak.  Now I am worried about getting my money back.”

Police had earlier arrested Nayak on the basis of a complaint lodged by a girl. However, Nayak saved himself from getting arrested as he paid her back.
