Three new medical colleges in Odisha soon

Cuttack: Three new medical colleges will start functioning in Jajpur, Kandhamal and Talcher soon, Odisha Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister Mukesh Mahaling said.

With this addition, Odisha will have a total of 13 medical colleges, Mahaling said while addressing a meeting of Odisha Medical College Teachers’ Association at SCB Medical College and Hospital’s Heritage Auditorium in Cuttack Friday.

The Health Minister, who graced the meeting as the chief guest, said the three facilities are almost ready for operationalisation. “The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 50 seats for the Jajpur facility. We’ll soon approach the commission for the other two medical colleges,” Mahaling said.

He said the state government has created a Rs 200 crore corpus fund for ‘Odia Asmita’.

“A committee has also been formed. Now, medicos will start learning in Odia language. The state government is committed to providing best healthcare facilities to all,” Mahaling said.

A healthy relationship between doctors and patients is the need of the hour. It not only helps in the patient’s speedy recovery but also goes a long way in ensuring the best health facility. SCBMCH will be soon transformed into an AIIMS-plus facility, he said.
