Three parking lots on SCB premises to ease traffic gridlock

Cuttack: The deteriorating traffic snarl on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here might lessen to some extent with the authorities deciding to set up three parking lots on the hospital premises soon.

According to sources, in absence of a dedicated parking facility on SCB premises, visitors to the largest state-run referral hospital often park their vehicle hither and thither, creating virtual traffic havoc.

To address the issue, dedicated parking lots would come up at three locations on SCB premises. Parking lots will come up near SCB’s old outdoor and Medicine Ward, while location for the third one will be finalised by the SCB authorities soon, said a meeting jointly convened by authorities of SCB, CMC and twin-city Commissionerate Police on the hospital premises Tuesday.

To further ease the snarl, the new gate of SCB, which is under-construction near Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC), would also be opened soon. “The vending zone near the upcoming gate has been hindering the process for which the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has been asked the relocate the vendors elsewhere,” a senior executive of SCB said.

Sources said several makeshift shops on SCB premises will also be asked to vacate the campus soon. Moreover, private ambulances, which could usually be seen parked on the hospital campus, will also be asked to be stationed out of the hospital campus.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Akhilesvar Singh, SCB superintendent CBK Mohanty, SCB Dean Jayashree Mohanty, Mangalabag inspector in-charge (IIC) Amitav Mohapatra and several CMC members also attended the meet.
