Three women killed in landslide in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: At least three women died after a dump of murram caved in on them on the banks of Kolab dam in Koraput district, Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Purni Badnaik, 18, Sanmati Jani, 17,  and Champa Badnayak, 18, of nearby Salmanguda village.

The mishap occurred when the women had gone to the hill to dig murram in front of a temple near the Kolab dam at Kerenga panchayat under Koraput block. A sudden landslide occurred and the three women died after getting buried under the dump.

On being informed, a 19 member team of Koraput Sadar police, fire brigade personnel and ODRAF personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem to the SLN Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.  Koraput Sadar Police also launched an investigation into the incident.

Sub-Collector Benudhar Shabar announced of Rs 20,000 financial assistance to the bereaved family from the district Red-Cross fund.
