Throwback to when Arjun Tendulkar’s pace was too hot to handle for Surrey XI; watch video

Pacer Arjun Tendulkar cannot wait for his maiden Indian Premier League stint to start with Mumbai Indians.

The 21-year-old, son of iconic former captain Sachin Tendulkar, got a major fillip Thursday when he was bought by MI at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Back in 2019, playing in the Second Eleven Championship for MCC Young Cricketers, a 19-year-old Arjun impressed all as he took two wickets in their match against Surrey second XI.

In fact, his delivery that dismissed Surrey second XI’s opener Nathan Tilley made cricket fans sit up and take note.

A video of the wicket was tweeted from the official handle of Lord’s Cricket Ground and it made quite a splash on social media. The tweet read: “Arjun Tendulkar, take a bow! He took this stunning wicket this morning for @MCCYC4L.”

Arjun — a fast bowler unlike his father Sachin Tendulkar — hit the deck hard and the ball swung back into the right handed opener. Even before the batsman could counter it, the ball crashed on to the off stump. Arjun ended the game with figures of 2/50 from his 11 overs.

“Since childhood I have always been a die hard fan of Mumbai Indians. I would like to thank the coaches and support staff who showed faith in me.

“I am excited to join the MI Paltan and can’t wait to wear the blue and gold,” Arjun said in a video message posted on MI’s twitter handle.

Arjun has been a net bowler for the franchise for the past two-three seasons.

He recently made his senior Mumbai team debut when he played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the national T20 championship, against Haryana.
