Udupi: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Sri Pejawar Mutt in Udupi in Karnataka has a unique opinion on India’s counter-terrorism measures.
The seer believes that India’s alleged rise in terrorist incidents is down to the fact that the country’s national animal is the tiger. Swamiji believes that to put a stopper to the growing terrorist threat in the country, the authorities should elevate the cow as India’s national animal.
According to Swamiji, the cow is a symbol of love and innocence. If the country had embraced the cow as its national animal, there would not have been any terrorists born in India.
Swamiji’s comments on counter-terrorism came while speaking at a ‘Santa Samagam’ held at a yoga camp organised by Baba Ramdev in Udupi.
In 2018, two states, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, had urged the Centre to declare the cow as ‘rashtra mata’. The two north Indian states had even passed resolutions for that in their respective assemblies.
The previous year, in 2017, a judge in the Rajasthan High Court had called for the cow to be declared as India’s national animal.
Besides praising the cow, Swamiji also urged for cleaning up the River Ganga, introduction of a uniform civil code and strong measures to check population control.
