Tite to continue as Brazil coach

Tite to stay as Brazil coach until 2022

Rio de Janeiro: Tite will remain as Brazil coach until 2022 despite the team’s shock World Cup exit in Russia, the country’s football federation (CBF) announced Thursday. “The CBF has renewed the contract with coach Tite until the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar,” wrote the CBF on its website.

Tite is the first coach of the Brazil national team to be re-appointed after a World Cup elimination since Claudio Coutinho in 1978.

Tite was hired in 2016 having won two titles, a Copa Libertadores and a World Club Cup while coaching Corinthians. He led Brazil to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where his side lost to Belgium.

The 57-year old described the role as a great challenge that he is happy to face. The CBF said it is ‘investing in a long-term project’ and has also extended the contract of former Arsenal midfielder Edu, who acts as the team’s general manager.
