Titli-induced heavy rain batters Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of Odisha Friday following incessant rain under the impact of cyclonic storm Titli.

Most parts of northern and coastal Odisha including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are reeling under waterlogging.

Rain has wreaked havoc by creating flood-like situation in Ganjam, Gajapati and Balasore districts.

Water level in major rivers is also rising, reports said. Currently, water is flowing six metres above the danger mark in Jalaka river in Balasore district due to heavy rainfall.

The regional centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release said heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers will continue to occur at as many as 15 districts in the state till 11.45 AM Friday. The districts include Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Sundergarh and Deogarh.

However, relief and rescue operation in Gajapati, Ganjam and Rayagada district is underway in spite of heavy rain.
