To attract voters, Cong offers ‘matrimonial kit’

Bhubaneswar: Trying its best to woo voters just ahead of upcoming polls, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Monday announced another gift for the voters. The party said it will present marriage kit to poor people, if the party came to power.
Speaking to reporters here, PCC president Niranjan Patnaik has revealed about this new development. “When our party manisfesto will be released you will come to know. We have decided to present ‘a marriage kit’ this time if voted to power. The kit may carry cash or matrimonial materials,” Patnaik said.
It seems that the Grand Old Party, which is lagging behind than BJD and BJP in the state under the poor leadership of Niranjan Patnaik, is trying hard to woo voters.
Earlier, the party has announced farm loan waiver, enhance of paddy MSP to `2,600 per quintal and promised a job to every household.
Both BJD and BJP strongly reacted to this promise by the Congress. BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “For a period of 60 years, the Congress had the slogan of ‘garibi hatao’. ‘Garibi’ didn’t get abolished but the ‘garib’ (poor) kept the party at bay. Will the people of Odisha trust Congress party who had always made false promises and plundered India?”
Similarly, state BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty said, “Congress is desperate to come to power in Odisha. Rahul Gandhi and his party have got the political right to make announcements. But the people of the state will give a befitting reply during the elections.”
