Tobacco firm staffer robbed of Rs 18L

Khuntuni: Four bike-borne miscreants snatched away Rs 18 lakh from an employee of a Denkanal-based tobacco company at gunpoint on National Highway -55 under Khuntuni police limits here Tuesday.

Police have registered a case as per a complaint lodged by victim Santosh Ray and begun a probe into the incident.

As per the complaint, the incident occurred when Ray was travelling to Cuttack from Dhenkanal on his bike around 11.30 am.

Four bike-borne miscreants intercepted Ray on the highway and snatched a bag containing the money at gunpoint.

On being informed, officials of Khuntuni police reached the spot and brought Ray to the police station.

The cops informed the incident to other police stations after getting information regarding the snatchers from Ray. However, police could not trace the snatchers till the last report came in.

“The miscreants were following Ray on two bikes and waylaid him around 200 metres away from Khuntuni police station. Ray, however, did not contact the police immediately,” said a source.

It is worth mentioning here that several incidents of snatching have been reported from Khuntuni and Gurudijhatia areas in last few months.

Unknown miscreants had snatched away Rs 50 lakh from a doctor and a gold necklace from a woman in two separate incidents under Gurudijhatia police limits.

Similarly, miscreants had snatched away Rs 34,000 from an employee of a financial company under Khuntuni police limits.
