Top level meeting at PMO to discuss security situation

New Delhi: Top security and intelligence officials Wednesday huddled into a meet at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here in the wake of Pakistan Air Force jets violating the Indian airspace, sources said.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, senior officials of the Indian Navy, Army and the Air Force and other security officials were holding a meeting to discuss the current security situation, they said. However, the Prime Minister was not present. Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to join the meeting after some time.

Earlier in the day, a PAF F-16 fighter jet was shot down by Indian air defence forces in Rajouri sector of Jammu region.

In another development the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved Wednesday acquisition of defence equipment for about Rs 2,700 crore, official sources said here. The meeting of the council, the highest decision-making body for defence purchase, was chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
