Niali: In a tragic incident, two minor boys died when a tractor overturned and fell into Debi river near Kulasri village here Friday.
The deceased were identified as Bishwajit Bhoi,17, and Bikash Bhoi,16, of Bhogeswar village under Govindpur police limits.
Sources claimed that the tractor overturned and fell into the river while it was travelling on the embankment near Kulasri in the morning. Some villagers claimed that Bishwajit was taking the wheels when the incident occurred.
The duo died on the spot. On being informed, Niali police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem after registering a case of accidental death.
It is learnt that Bishwajit and Bikash did not have licence to drive the tractor. “Many minor boys are transporting sand from Debi river using tractors without having any driving licence. The district administration and the police have turned a blind eye to the issue,” said a villager.
