Chhendipada: Police rescued a girl from the captivity of human traffickers at Chhendipada in Angul district Monday, a report said.
The girl of a village under Chhendipada police limits had been trafficked to Uttar Pradesh two months ago. There she was made to marry a non-Odia person.
The woman, who had been looking out for an opportunity to break free, found out a ruse to pay a visit to her home village. She was allowed, but her husband came with her to her village some days back.
Later, when her husband asked her to go to her in-laws’ place, she expressed her unwillingness to go back to the same trap again.
Some middlemen who had allegedly played a key role in sending her to Uttar Pradesh and a few villagers put pressure on her to leave the village.
Shocked and terrified, the girl left her house and went missing. With the woman remaining untraced, her husband had to leave the village.
Later, family members and the alleged traffickers traced her and put her in a locked room.
On being tipped off, Chhendipada IIC Nirmal Gochhayat and his team reached the village and rescued the woman.
The incident is said to be the tip of the iceberg. Trafficking of woman has become a regular affair in this area. Women and girls are routinely trafficked to other states against their wish. Stringent steps are demanded to curb the crime.
