Jajpur: In a tragic incident, a three-year-old child was killed while his parents and elder sister suffered injuries after a branch of a roadside tree fell on the motorcycle they were travelling on in Jajpur district, Saturday.
The incident occurred near Jodikua square under Town police limits in Jajpur.
According to a source, Sunanda Bindhani, a resident of Adia village under Agarpada block in Bhadrak district, along with his wife and two children had gone to goddess Biraja Temple in Jajpur district on a motorcycle. On their way home, as they were nearing the Sanskrit College near Jodikua square, a huge branch of a roadside tree fell on them, trapping them under it.
Local residents rescued them and rushed them to Jajpur district headquarters hospital (DHH). The doctors there declared the three-year-old child as received dead while Sunanda, his wife and daughter are undergoing treatment.
The incident sparked tension among the local people who staged a road blockade putting burning tyres on Jajpur-Binjharpur road. On being informed, police officials from Jajpur town police station reached the spot, recovered the body for postmortem and launched a probe.
The demonstration was still underway at the time of filing of this report.
