Rayagada: Police recovered Sunday a woman’s body from the river bed of the Nagabali river of Dhamunipanga panchayat under Kalyansinghpur block in this district.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Sindhu Majhi, wife of Behera Majhi of Phajikhal village under Rampur block.
Sources said, Sindhu was returning home Wednesday from the family’s farmland. She was crossing Pidisal rivulet near her village, when she slipped and fell down and was washed away. Her family members launched a frantic search for her when she did not return home as per her normal time. They also informed the police.
For the last three days both Sindhu’s family members and the police had been searching for her but to no avail.
It was Sunday only when some villagers of Tahamunda who were fishing in the same rivulet spotted a body buried on the river bed. They immediately informed sarpanch Raghu Kadraka who in turn intimated the police.
Later, police and fire personnel reached the spot and fished her body out. Family members identified the body as Sindhu’s. “The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation is on,” said a police official.
