Trailer gets stuck on railway track, train movement affected

Muniguda:  Railway traffic came to a standstill between Muniguda and Rayagada stations Friday morning as a trailer got stuck on the track at Muniguda level crossing after suffering a brake failure.

Sources said, the trailer was carrying aluminum powder from Vishakhapatnam to Jharsuguda. However, while going past the level crossing, there was a mechanical problem with the brakes. The driver however, showed great presence of mind to divert the truck on to the railway track, thereby preventing loss of life and property.

“There are some shops and a bus stand nearby. Had the driver not diverted the truck, it would have crashed into the shops definitely and caused extensive damage,” locals said.

Due to the truck getting stuck on the tracks a number of trains including the Gandhi Dham-Puri Express got delayed.

Railway staff and Muniguda RPF personnel have reached the spot where the truck is standing. Efforts are on to remove it.
