Train services on Sambalpur-Hirakud route affected as truck breaks down on railway tracks

Sambalpur: Train services on Sambalpur-Hirakud railway stations came to a grinding halt after a container truck Sunday rammed into the railway track along the Sambalpur-Burla national highway.

As per reports, the driver of the truck lost control while an SUV overtook it from right and rammed into the railway track near Laxmidunguri area. The vehicle was on its way from Nagpur to Kolkata. A major accident was averted as no train was running on the route when the mishap occurred.

Meanwhile, police and railway officials have already reached the spot and launched a massive operation to clear the railway track resuming the train services at the earliest.

The driver of the truck, Bahadur Yadav, said that the vehicle was en route to Kolkata from Nagpur when another vehicle overtook the container truck and he lost control.

“To save my life, I had to turn the truck towards the right side but unfortunately lost control and rammed into the railway track,” said Yadav. Meanwhile, railway authorities reached the spot to clear the track.

Sambalpur railway divisional officer said, on a priority basis, the railway traffic restoration work is on as several trains have been halted at the nearby railway stations. He also added that the authority concerned would undertake an inquiry into the incident.
