Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma has urged the first batch of traffic sub-inspectors from Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) to enforce traffic rules diligently.
Sharma was addressing the cadets during the passing out parade held at the BPSA on the outskirts of the city Tuesday. Sharma inspected the parade and said that officers should adhere to professionalism instead of being emotional.
He stressed on the need for regular patrolling on highways and strict enforcement of road safety rules. He called upon the cadet SIs to be people-friendly, impartial and disciplined while performing their duty. He urged the cadets to follow the 3-T mantra – technology, team-work and transparency – prescribed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The DGP said that providing ‘safe roads’ to the public has become a major challenge for the police. He asked the Odisha Motor Vehicle Department (OMVD) to enforce rules properly to ensure safe roads.
Director of BPSPA Arun Kumar Sarangi and transport commissioner Sanjib Panda also attended the function.
This is the first time that 16 cadet SIs (Traffic) of the OMVD department got trained at BPSPA. During the six-month course the cadets underwent training in major crime laws, forensics and photography, traffic control laws, Constitution and human rights laws.
The trainees were also trained to enforce motor vehicle laws and regulate traffic. They were also taught to raise awareness on ‘accident-free zones’.
