Kendrapara: A two-day block level training programme was organised by the fishery department in collaboration with Mission Shakti, World Fish and the fishery department at Rajnagar Panchayat Samiti meeting hall to encourage women SHGs to go for scientific fish farming.

The BDO of Rajnagar, Mandardhar Mahali, inaugurated the programme. Mamata Mohapatra, the district fishery officer Dr Arun Padiar of World Fish and Sagarika Mallick from Mission Shakti attended the programme. Nine women SHG members also participated in the training programme.

The programme discussed the importance of fish farming, its management and profits and government aid for encouraging fish farming.

On the second day of the training programme, women SHGs were taken for a field visit to Bhagabanpur–based Maa Budhi Jagulai fish farming centre and fish farming equipment and kits were provided to these SHGs.

The training programme in fish farming would help women SHGs a lot, said Manoranjan Mohapatra, assistant fishery officer of Rajnagar block.

In 2018-19 fiscal, fish farming was done by 43 women SHGs of the district. The fishery department with the support of Mission Shakti aims to get more women SHGs to opt for fish farming, said Mamata Mohapatra.
