Transport stir hits life in state

Bhubaneswar: The 24-hour strike called by the Transport Workers’ Federation Tuesday has caused difficulties to commuters as buses, heavy vehicles, taxis and auto rickshaws were off the roads.

While parents and students in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack suffered due to the lack of school buses, the office goers too had a tough time reaching their destinations.

The transportation of goods and other essential commodities is also likely to get disrupted due to the strike, said sources.

Notably, the All Odisha Transport Workers’ Federation had extended its support to the 24-hour nationwide transport strike. Several other trade unions have also backed the strike to press for the withdrawal of a decision to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The Nikhila Odisha Taxi and Auto Rickshaw Association has also extended their support to the strike.
