‘Travelling Comedians’ make their mark in City

BHUBANESWAR: A show ‘Travelling Comedians’ was organised by Bhubaneswar Komedians and sponsored by Zoom Car at Kruti Coffee in Patia here Tuesday.

Comedians from Biryaniland, Sandesh Johnny and Bhavneet Singh would be travelling the length and breadth of the country to conduct shows in 27 cities. They will travel ten thousand kilometers over 31 days performing live standup. This is the India’s first Comedy Road Trip where funds would be used for betterment of tribal communities in Vishakhapatnam.

Sandesh Johnny quit his job at Amazon to pursue stand-up comedy full time. After plying his trade as a journalist and Radio Jockey, Bhavneet has finally decided to pursue comedy. He has done over 300 stand-up comedy shows across the country in the last four years.

With a great understanding of writing for media and a knack for adding a punch line to almost anything (even when it isn’t needed) Bhavneet is a golden duck waiting to be picked up. Starting from Bengaluru on February 7, the trio is all set to cover 27 cities within the period. The tour is called the ‘Travelling Comedians’.

Sandesh says that the comedy scene today is very different from what it used to be. Along with popular comedians like Kenny Sebastian, Kanan Gill and Biswa Kalyan Rath, there are many comedians who are as talented as the popular ones. Popularity in comedy, according to Sandesh, happens when you get on a TV show or if your YouTube video goes viral.

“If your video does not have a million views, you cannot fill seats. No one knows you unless you have a digital presence,” he adds.

The trio has set off from Bengaluru and will visit cities across India like Chennai, Kochi, Goa, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata and Hyderabad, among others, and wrap up their comedy tour on March 9.
