Get ready to make a style statement this Independence Day

Independence Day is just around the corner, so it seems like a good time to think of what to wear on this celebratory occasion. Be it school, college or office celebrations, you can make a style statement with the right outfit.

According to Bhubaneswar-based fashion designer Amruta Kar, “Most people try to incorporate the colours of the national flag in their outfits. If you don’t do it the right way, it can look bad. There are many ways to add these colours in an elegant way.”

All white with a hint of contrast: Go for an all-white look and add a touch of colour with green/orange dupattas. Choose kurtas/kurtis that have colourful motifs or embroidery work on them. That way you can keep to the theme and ace the fashion game.

Drape it up: Ladies, this Independence Day, go for a white saree that has colourful borders or pair it up with a blouse in the colours of the flag. Don’t go for neons as they might look over the top. Fabric wise, chiffon or pure silk sarees suit all ages, be it college going girls or middle-aged women.

Add-ons: Accessories play an important role in styling. Add colourful earrings, clutches, pretty looking flip flops or cute bellies. You can pick tricolour accessories for Independence Day events.
Styling tips for men
Here are some looks that guys can try this Independence Day.
Wear your favourite pair of denims and top it off with a kurta in white/green/orange colour or wear a basic white shirt with a bright jacket. Try Nehru jackets, they lend a poised look. Also, if you want to get the classy Indian look, pair long kurtas with pajamas or loose fitted churidars. Team your kurtas with dhoti pants for a different look. For a totally indigenous look, there is nothing to beat outfits in khadi.

Vishwat Sen, a Bhubaneswar-based fashion designer, suggests that a white outfit would be a good choice for Independence Day as white stands for peace.

Ghagra choli is a part of Indian traditional fashion. Often worn for weddings, it can be chosen for other celebratory occasions too. Keep the silhouette chic with a short sleeved saffron choli and white ghagra embellished with sequins. Adding a pop in bright shades to add a touch of modernity. You can also try salwar suits that are patterned or embroidered in shades of the tricolour to keep to the Independence Day mood.
