Tribal Affairs Ministry calls meeting of state govts

New Delhi: Following the direction of Supreme Court to the states over the claims of tribals to live in the forests, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Friday called a meeting of 21 state governments March 6.

According to the ministry, the meeting was called to ensure effective implementation of the Supreme Court order.

Earlier, the apex court, while putting a stay on its February 13 order, had directed the state governments to file a detailed affidavit by July 10 furnishing information regarding constitution of office review committees, details regarding the procedure having been followed on the claim applications under the Forest Rights Act as well as the appeals filed against the rejection cases.

The court also required information to be filed regarding the procedure which is to be followed after finally arriving at the rejection cases in each state.
