Tribal widow with 2 sons pleads for house

Joda: Rural housing schemes are meant for the poor and the disadvantaged, but there are many who have not got the benefits of these schemes in the tribal Joda block of Keonjhar.

A tribal woman, Sumitra Munda, and her two minor sons have been living in her rundown house in Unchbali of Palasa panchayat.

Her husband, Anam Munda, died a year ago. He had been working as a labourer. After his death, the family is suffering and their thatched house has crumbled.

“When we are unable to manage two square meals a day, how can we repair our house?” Sumitra said.

Sumitra also said that she had pleaded with the sarpanch and block officials for a house, but they had ignored her.

She said that everyone she approached had asked for bribes to sanction a house, although the sarpanch still keeps assuring that she will be given a house.

The public here said that the administration should take note of the widow’s plight and sanction a house for her.
