Tribal woman gangraped in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: A tribal woman was allegedly gangraped by four miscreants at Talasahi of Tikayatpur village under Baisingha police limits in Mayurbhanj district late Sunday night.

According to available information, the incident took place at around 12PM. The miscreants barged into the victim’s house and held her outraged the modesty of the woman after holding her father captive.

The criminals thrashed the survivor’s father severely when he tried to intervene and fled the spot with an unspecified amount of cash from the house.

The victim and her father approached the police and lodged a written complaint in this connection Monday morning.

Based on a complaint by the victim, police registered cases under Sections 457, 394, 397, 376, 506 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.

A team of scientific experts along with dog squad were pressed in service to probe the incident.

“Raids are being conducted at different places in the district to nab the absconders. Meanwhile, the survivor’s medical examination has also been conducted,” informed Baisingha police station inspector-in-charge Krushna Chandra Palai.

Similarly, a 7-year-old girl was raped by a youth in Caltex police outpost area in Dhenkanal district, police said.

The accused Kalia Dehuri was sent for a medical examination along with the victim to the district headquarters hospital.

The incident occurred when the girl had gone to Dehuri’s house to watch television. Dehuri raped her in the absence of his family members.

The survivor came back home and narrated the incident to her family members. Family members lodged a complaint at Caltex police outpost and later at Town police station, Town IIC Abhinav Dalua said.

The accused will be produced in a court after completion of necessary formalities, the IIC said.
