Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: Kherendra Dehuri, headmaster of a government school in Angul, was on cloud nine when he was felicitated for his valuable 34 years of contribution in the field of teaching by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday in front of a large audience comprising top officials from the education department.
Dehuri who has also tried his hands at poetry and prose was overwhelmed for the recognition of his work. Similar is the tale of Vibhisana Barik from Sundargarh district who, besides playing the role of a teacher, toiled hard to pursue the parents of many students to check the dropout rate of girl students in his area. His successful endeavour was appreciated and applauded by the audience.
Like Dehuri and Vibhisana many other teachers Saturday were felicitated by the CM on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on OUAT campus. The CM appreciated the teachers for their contribution in enlightening society.
He said, “Education is the biggest guarantee children can have. It can potentially bring social and economic change in society. On the occasion of Teacher’s Day we are paying tribute to teachers from different parts of the state for their valuable contribution in the field of
education.”
The CM also talked about the achievements of the state government in imparting quality education in different parts of the state. The programme was attended by state school and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra and secretary of the department Ranjana Chopra.
Mishra said, “I pay my tribute to people who work towards disseminating education to the future of the country. As far as our state is concerned we are doing better than other states when it comes to the gender parity index, enrollment and dropout ratio. I am hopeful of progress in the education sector.”
