Tributes paid to martyred cops

Koraput: Solemnity marked the 59th Police Commemoration Day at two events held at Police Ground and the District Police Headquarters here Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh attended the event at Police Ground and offered floral tributes to the martyred policemen. At another event held at the District Police Headquarters Sunday morning, he paid homage to the policemen who laid their lives in line of duty amidst gun salutes. A two-minute silence was also observed for the policemen from the state who lost their lives this year.

A Martyrs Column has been put up at the Police Ground here with the initiative of the SP to mark the day. “We would deal with the Maoist threat prevailing in the district more courageously in the coming days,” said Singh while speaking to the media persons.

The family members of martyrs, local dignitaries and students paid tributes to the martyrs at the commemoration ceremony.

Police Commemoration Day is observed October 21 every year to remember the supreme sacrifice made by Indian policemen, particularly on the country’s borders.
