Balasore: The National Flag from the historic ‘Salt Satyagraha’ memorial pillar at Inchudi village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district was reportedly stolen by miscreants. The matter came to the fore after a written complaint in this regard was lodged at Khantapada police station.
The miscreants have broken the pole and fled with the Tricolour. During his visit to the Salt Satyagraha memorial pillar, Committee Secretary Prashant Mohanty found the flag missing and alerted other members of the committee following which a complaint was lodged.
The theft comes in the wake of the stealing of freedom fighter’s statue from the memorial pillar just a month back.
The miscreants stole the statue of freedom fighter Loknath Mohanty July 6 night. Police are yet to trace the accused in the incident so far.
Inchudi village has a significance in the history of freedom struggle along with Dandi where Mahatma Gandhi had launched Salt Satyagraha movement in 1930.
Hundreds of freedom fighters including Gopabandhu Chaudhury and Acharya Harihar Das began their foot march from the Swarajya Ashram of Cuttack towards Inchudi with Mahatma Gandhi violating the Salt Law imposed by the British government at Dandi April 6, 1930,.
Several satyagrahis were arrested for breaking the salt law and many were injured by the British force. Thousands of earthen pots, required for salt processing, were also broken by the police forces.
